Gay Marriage Backers To Protest Mormon Display

MESA, Ariz. — Supporters of gay marriage vow to be out in full force when Mormons light their massive Christmas displays Friday night on the grounds of the Mesa Arizona Temple.

They’re upset with Mormons’ opposition to same-sex marriage and the passage of state constitutional amendments banning gay marriage in Arizona, California and Florida in the Nov. 4 election.

Organizers said they’re hoping thousands will turn out in solidarity for gays and lesbians seeking full civil rights.

The Mormon church urged members to donate money and vote for the gay marriage bans.

The church finds it surprising it is being singled out by protesters, said Mormon spokesman Don Evans.

Evans said the amendments were also supported by the Catholic church and various evangelical denominations.

  1. The Mormons have gleefully posited themselves as a Tax-Exempt Hate Group. Let’s see about that exemption now.

I personally view ANY outdoor display by Catholics, Mormons, and the Christian Right as a flaming crucifix in my neighborhood; a symbol of hate.

They’ve already earned everything they will receive. Yes, violence is bad, but violence is a plausible reaction when a church enters into our homes and threatens our family’s (and children’s) safety and security, which Marriage Inequality surely does. [equality tax protest]
